Committed to our Community
Passionate, proactive and practical for a fun, inclusive and sustainable Willoughby
Our positive plans for Council focus on the following areas:
Traffic, Transport & Pedestrian Safety
Making our schools safer and transport easier for everyone in the community.
We will be advocating for improvements to infrastructure around the education precinct of Willoughby Public School / Willoughby Girls High School and better bus services to Castle Cove. Encouraging active transport, creating better bike paths, connections and facilities. Advocacy for changes to make the roads outside of Councils jurisdiction to keep our community safe and to protect our villages.
Sport & Recreation
Supporting local sporting clubs and community groups through well maintained, improved and expanded amenities.
We will ensure the voices of the community are heard and their interests advocated throughout the redevelopment of the Gore Hill precinct, Willoughby Leisure Centre, Club Willoughby and the Castle Cove Golf Club. Our fabulous clubs need to be supported post lockdown. We’d love to see more collaboration and communication between clubs to achieve better outcomes for our community. Appropriate investment and continued maintenance of parks, playgrounds, courts and community venues needs to continue. We want to see an increase in accessible access and safety to community facilities, including perimeter pathways at all major parks, in particular, the Willoughby Park lower oval and Bales Park and fences at playgrounds such as Hallstrom Park and Market Garden Park.
Community & Culture
Enhancing our community through multi-generational events, activities and facilities that build connections and appreciate diversity.
We want to ensure all events, libraries and community centres are current, relevant and accessible. Cultural activities and development should reflect the needs and wants of the community - we will listen and represent the voices of the community. I’m keen to initiate some multi-generational events and council driven initiatives that are fun, safe and inclusive, to help build resilience, celebrate diversity and bring us back together.
Sustainable Development
Advocating for local action to mitigate against climate change, ensuring our community is future fit.
Good planning to protect the village lifestyle of Willoughby is vitally important to us. We need to protect and preserve our natural assets such as Flat Rock Gully. Planning controls need to take sustainability into consideration. Development needs to balance the needs of our community and our environment.
Environment
We all have a responsibility to act on environmental sustainability and climate change, and local government is no exception.
We’re are committed to keeping council on track to deliver Our Green City Plan, ensuring we keep to councils net zero emissions target. Striving to increase canopy cover across our City will help keep our area cool and maintain our natural beauty. We’re also keen to see more community charging stations for electric vehicles, solar-powered lights at our parks, green roofs and walls across our City skyline.
Business
Promoting sustainable economic development and advocating for small business, who are the heart of our community.
We will be exploring ways in which Council can support local businesses in their recovery from the effects of Covid-19. There is a new norm of working from home, and this needs to be accounted for in future planning by council. We have a vibrant CBD, with great connections to wider Sydney, but we also need to look at our local business precincts and consider creative initiatives to help small business recovery.
